The clarification was made Monday, October 10, by Engineer Jose Taniongon, head of the Engineering Department of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), following the power outage during the speech Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez on Saturday, October 8.
Benitez was having his First 100 Days Accomplishment Report at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds when a brownout occurred.
“The power interruption was only short, from 6:02 p.m. and was immediately restored at 6:05 p.m.,” Taniongon said.
He said the power interruption affected only the BCGC area.
“The BCGC area is getting its power supply from our 30 megavolt-amperes (MVA) power substation,” Taniongon said.
He added that the Burgos feeder shut off to protect the whole substation from high voltage of more than 2,000 amperes, and it was an isolated case.
Ceneco Acting General Manager Erwin Stan Leo Ticar also noted that they have already explained the matter to the mayor and they assured him that it was unintentional.
Ticar already explained the reason for the power outage to Benitez.
He said that Benitez along with Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya assured them of support, especially in the rehabilitation of old and dilapidated posts as Ceneco has limited budget.
“We also committed that during this MassKara celebration, we will closely monitor the events and assign standby crew to immediately address any power related problem,” Ticar said.*
