Christian Bajilidad, 27, of Barangay Guintorillan in San Enrique, Negros Occidental, was arrested at about 6:30 p.m. while he was trying to steal a motorcycle of policeman near the Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City.
Captain Vincent Paul Pendon, commander of Police Station 2, said that Bajilidad was arrested after he tried to carnap the Yamaha Nmax motorcycle owned by Corporal Rolly Mardoquio, who is detailed at Police Station 2.
He said Mardoquio went to the mall to buy their personal supplies and when he returned to his motorcycle, he saw the suspect maneuvering the handle of the vehicle.
Pendon added that the police officer immediately sought the assistance of the security guard of the mall to corner the suspect.
The suspect, who is detained at the custodial facility of the station, was charged before the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday for violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Act.
Meanwhile, Elmar Alvarez Gemida, 24, of Barangay Ilaya in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, was arrested at the San Carlos City Port at about 8:20 p.m.
Gemida is allegedly the suspect in the killing of public school teacher, Jhun Leo Panares, 33, who was found dead with stab wounds at a classroom of the Naga Integrated Center for Science, Technology, Culture, and Arts in Barangay Inoburan, Naga City, Cebu on Sunday, October 16.
Lt. Col. Jesus Mesahon, chief of San Carlos City Police Station, said no less than Gemida’s live-in partner pointed to him as the suspect in the teacher’s killing.
Gemida was supposed to meet her at the port but was not aware that she was already with the police.
Recovered evidence from the suspect’s possession included a cellular phone, a wallet containing P10,000 in cash, and the victim’s motorcycle, police records showed.*
