This was the reaction of Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday, October 18, to the proposal to open the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City on a regular basis.
Victorias Mayor Javier Benitez said last week that the mayors in the province are studying the possible opening of the pavilions on a regular basis.
Benitez, who is the president of the Association of Chief Executives (ACE)-Negros Occidental Chapter, said they are thinking of an event to attract visitors once every month.
He said that after the local government units (LGUs) spent for the repairs of their pavilions, they should at least be opened to the public once every month.
But Lacson said they are looking into it if it’s feasible, adding that they will start with the operation of the pavilions at least once a month.
“Let’s test the waters then we will decide if we can make it once a week,” Lacson said, adding that this may start next year.
Meanwhile, Lacson said the province is willing and happy to join the MassKara Festival of Bacolod City if invited again in the future.
“The province is just happy to join MassKara, we can consider this as the first,” he said.
As a whole [province], Lacson added, they are happy to celebrate MassKara at the Panaad referring to the just recently concluded “MassKara sa Panaad” from October 10 to 16.*
