This was the appeal of Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II to all the local government units (LGU) in Negros Occidental in relation to the ongoing provincial vaccination drive against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
“The provincial government is here to provide the vaccines and the vaccinators for our vaccination drive (but) we are asking the LGUs to respond and work on the ground,” he said.
Diaz said the work on the ground lies on the LGUs while the barangay health workers (BHWs) are in the forefront.
The incentives for those who will have themselves vaccinated is now in process, the official also said.
For the first two Thursdays and Fridays of the vaccination drive in the province, only 16,181 were inoculated, Provincial Health Office (PHO) records showed.
“It’s always been critical and it’s the basis for our classification level on Covid-19 [alert status],” Diaz explained.
Now that classifications are done per locality, then it is fitting that the LGUs should cooperate, the provincial administrator said.
Early this week, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has expressed doubts whether the vaccination target of the province would be reached through the provincial vaccination drive this month, citing reports that it’s still hard to convince the people to get vaccinated.
To convince more Negrenses to get vaccinated against Covid-19, the provincial government is giving incentives for fully vaccinated residents and for BHWs who can convince more vaccinees.
BHWs who can convince an individual to get vaccinated will get P25 per individual while an individual including senior citizens who will be fully vaccinated will each get five kilos of rice.*
