Escalante said that the decision of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to downgrade the city’s coronavirus disease (Covid-19) alert level is an indication that all of their hard work as well as the growing number of vaccinated residents earned good results.
The mayor, however, said that he is worried that the number of Covid-19 cases could spike again in the city with the lifting of some restrictions.
Escalante said he is particularly concerned over the increase of social gatherings as puroks in the city could now hold fiestas.
Aside from Cadiz City, the other ares in Negros Occidental placed under Alert Level 1 by the IATF are the cities of Sagay, Victorias, La Carlota and the towns of Candoni, Pontevedra, Pulupandan and San Enrique.
The province’s capital, Bacolod City, was also placed under Alert Level 1 until June 30 this year.
The rest of the localities in Negros Occidental, meanwhile, remained under Alert Level 2.*
