IN SPITE of the first coronavirus disease (Covid-19) Omicron variant case in Bacolod City, the face-to-face (F2F) classes at Alangilan National High School (ANHS) in Barangay Alangilan will continue, an official of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF) said.

Em Ang, executive director of EOC-TF, said Wednesday, January 5, that the F2F class at ANHS is composed of two groups with 20 students each, and all of them are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Ang said that even their teachers, parents and other members of the family are also fully vaccinated.

She added that there is nothing to worry over the returning overseas Filipino (ROF) who earlier tested positive for the Omicron variant.

The EOC-TF already referred the case of the 38-year-old ROF to the Department of Health (DOH) in Western Visayas.

On December 31, the ROF, who is from Mindanao, went to Bacolod City to meet his wife, a native of Pampanga and is working as a call center agent in the city.

The ROF and his wife are both asymptomatic.

The pilot run of limited F2F classes for Grade 12 students at ANHS started on December 6, 2021.

Ang said the ANHS is a 100 percent vaccinated campus, but they are closely monitoring the school.

Also, they are conducting series of evaluation starting next week.

She said that during their meeting with Mayor Evelio Leonardia, it was agreed that there will be no additional schools to open for F2F classes for the meantime.

“The mayor did not order any additional restrictions or any additional changes in the guidelines except that our port monitoring team will strictly closely monitor all incoming travellers,” she added.

Ang noted that on January 5, Bacolod City recorded a total of 16 new Covid-19 cases and most of them have history of travel or attended a party.

“It’s expected that after the holidays, our Covid-19 cases will increase because of the [recent] mass gathering or family reunions,” Ang said.

Some of the travelers from Manila were also tested positive for Covid-19, she added.
