“SINCE Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and Love Negros, we will support him and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer.”
This was the declaration made by Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
Zayco said the agreement of both parties to enter into a merger is aimed at preventing political battles at the local level.
When asked who will run against him, Zayco said he does not know yet, saying that “we will know when it is already the filing of the candidacies.”
Aside from Zayco, Vice Mayor Raul Rivera and all incumbent councilors, except for one, who is set to finish his term, expressed support for the re-election bid of Lacson.
Meanwhile, Zayco said his brother, former Mayor Isidro Zayco, is still the chairman of the NPC in Negros Occidental.
The former mayor is expected to sign the Certificates of Nomination and Acceptance (Cona) of the NPC members, Zayco said.
During his visit to Kabankalan City on Tuesday, September 14, Lacson discussed with local officials the preparations for the filing of candidacies set from October 1 to 8, 2021.
As of now, NPC members in the province are still waiting for the arrival of Conas from the national office, as well as for instructions on who to support for president in next year’s elections.
So far only Senate President Vicente Sotto, who is the NPC chair, has officially signified his plan to run as vice president with Senator Panfilo Lacson as president.
