THE demand for Covid-19 vaccine is greater than the supply in Negros Occidental, said Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II.

Diaz said vaccine supplies are running out already.

He said 10,700 doses of Moderna vaccines and 10,000 doses of Sinovac arrived in the province on Tuesday, August 10, and that prior to the arrival of these additional vaccines, only about 50 doses of Johnson and Johnson, 1,000 doses of Sinovac, and the first batch of AstraZeneca bought by the province were left at the storage facilities.

Diaz said although they noted a lower turnout for senior citizen vaccinees in the province, most of them right now are already eager to be vaccinated.

He also revealed that more than 10 percent of the target population for vaccination in the province are already vaccinated, or a total of 154,539 individuals.

Diaz said the Moderna and Sinovac vaccines that arrived Tuesday will immediately be rolled out and that they are looking into the possibility that Moderna will be administered at Negros Residences and Teresita Jalandoni Provincial Hospital and to localities who will request for the vaccine.

Moderna Covid-19 vaccine multiple-dose vials are stored frozen between -50 degree Celsius and -15 degree Celsius.

The Moderna Covid 19 vaccine can be stored refrigerated between 2 degree and 8 degree Celsius for up to 30 days prior to first use and refreeze once thawed is not allowed.

Diaz also aired out the Province’s frustration on the delivery schedule of AstraZeneca vaccines that it purchased.

He said there have been companies offering the province of vaccines, but they opted not to take any order considering that the delivery schedule would still depend on the whims and caprices of the suppliers.
