ILOILO City – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) – Iloilo Complex said soaring temperature today and tomorrow will be in the “extreme caution” and “danger” categories.
The heat index will range between 33 and 43 degrees Celsius, thus excessive exposure to the sun should be avoided, according to PAGASA weather observer, Engr. Ferdinand “Ferds” Rubin Jr.
Heat index is defined as what the temperature feels like to the human body when relative humidity is combined with the air temperature.
“Kung lantawon naton halin sang nagligad nga semana medyo mainit gid man ang aton nga panahon. Isa man ‘ni sa epekto kay wala kita sang low pressure area…,” said Rubin.
The Iloilo Dopler Radar Station recorded a heat index not lower than 40 degrees Celcius.
“Sang nagligad nga semana diri sa Iloilo Dopler Radar Station, actually, naka-record kita sang mga heat index nga wala naganubo sa 40 degress Celcius kag take note naton nga lapit na lang sa danger category. Ang aton nga range sa heat index nga ara sa extreme category is magalab-ot asta sa 41 degrees Celcius,” Rubin said.
He added the highest heat index they have recorded so far was on April 20: “Ang pinakataas nga heat index ukon kapaangon nga posible nabatyagan sang aton nga lawas sang nagligad nga semana was yara sa 44 degrees Celcius.”
The weather observer also explained that heat index can be considered in the “extreme caution” category if it is between 34 and 41 degrees Celsius while the danger category is 42 degrees Celsius and above./PN
