ILOILO – The provincial government, through the Provincial School Board (PSB), allotted P7.952 million for the allowances and other expenses of Iloilo’s delegates to the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet in Aklan from April 26 to 30.
The Provincial Accounting Office released the check to the Department of Education (DepEd)-Schools Division of Iloilo on April 20 following the latter’s liquidation of the fund for the recent Iloilo Schools Sports Council division and inter-division meets.
“Yes, na-release na last Thursday ang tseke,” acting Provincial Administrator Dennis Ventilacion confirmed to Panay News on Sunday afternoon, April 23, when asked if the fund for WVRAA 2023 was already released.
Last week, Ventilacion said the voucher was already ready for release; the accounting office was only waiting for the aforementioned liquidation.
“Na-delay lang ang release because wala pa maka-submit sang liquidation ang DepEd sang fund sang inter-division meet,” he said.
The PSB allotted around P8.5 million for the division and inter-division meets.
Ventilacion also revealed that the PSB set aside a total of P45 million for schools and delegates for the division meet, inter-division meet up to Palarong Pambansa this year.
Meanwhile, data from DepEd Region 6 showed Iloilo has 787 delegates, composed of athletes, coaches, chaperone, and officials, for the WVRAA 2023.
More than 2,000 medals are at stake in the regional sports meet composed of 24 sports events for the secondary and 15 for the elementary level.
Sports events include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball 3×3, basketball elementary and secondary, billiard, boxing, chess, dance sport, football, futsal, gymnastics, paragames, goalball, bocce, pencak silat, sepak takraw elementary and secondary, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis elementary and secondary, volleyball elementary boys and girls, volleyball secondary boys and girls, wrestling, and wushu./PN
