BACOLOD City – A 15-year-old boy was hit by a bullet intended for his father around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Barangay Taloc, Bago City, Negros Occidental.
He was taken to the Bago District Hospital for a gunshot wound on his leg.
The Bago City Police Station withheld the victim’s name for being a minor but it identified the suspect – Virgilio Makilan, also a resident of Barangay Taloc.
Police investigation revealed that Jason Maliquian, nephew of the suspect, created a disturbance by accelerating his motorcycle in front of the victim’s house.
Rodjun Menente Sr., the victim’s father, confronted the indifferent Maliquian.
Menente went out carrying a wooden stick while Makilan, who was allegedly armed with a homemade shotgun (sulpak), suddenly appeared and shot the former, police said.
Bago City police added that Menente was able to avoid the bullet by dropping to the ground but unfortunately, his son who was walking after him was the one hit on a leg.
Police arrested Makilan, who is now in the custody of the Bago City Police Station./PN
