ILOILO City – This year’s celebration of the Iloilo City Charter Day on Aug. 25 would be modest due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
“It will be simple. But I think importante nga i-celebrate ta kay ti amo ni pagsugod sang aton nga syudad,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Among others, the celebration would focus on the contributions of top taxpayers to the city’s growth. A dinner will be tendered in their honor.
“Ara dira ang pag-appreciate ta sa bulig sang mga taxpayers nga even in the midst of the pandemic kanami sang lakat sang aton syudad,” said Treñas.
Due to rising COVID-19 cases, there would be no grand parade and ball.
This year’s 85th Charter Day celebration theme is “Forging Stronger Ties in the Community”.
“What is unique about Iloilo, I think, is its being a conglomeration of several municipalities. That is why all our districts may plaza. This is also the reason why ginakay-o ta ang mga plazas para may kadtuan man ang mga tawo,” said Treñas.
Meanwhile, the celebration will have a logo showing two hands in a clasp or handshake reflective of the city government’s ties with the community.
“Amo na ang private-public nga pagbinuligay,” Treñas said./PN
