ILOILO City – The Philippine National Police (PNP) reiterated its warning to Western Visayan cops not to engage in partisan politics as the May 2022 elections draw near.
“We should not intervene with the affairs of politicians. We should be loyal to the people and the Constitution,” said Police Colonel Roderick Alba, PNP spokesperson, in an interview with Panay News.
Alba said PNP chief General Guillermo Eleazar would be running after defiant cops.
Eleazar earlier ordered an aggressive campaign against loose firearms and private armed groups to ensure peaceful, honest and orderly national and local elections.
Alba also said police personnel who have relatives or family members running for elective positions will be temporarily relieved from their posts.
“After elections ibalik ka man sa imo post,” Alba added.
To ensure a safe filing of certificates of candidacy, permits to carry firearms outside residence are suspended from Oct. 1 to Oct. 8.
Only uniformed personnel of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other government forces are allowed to carry firearms.
