WHILE Cagayan de Oro City’s health risk indicators remain at low risk, the City Health Office (CHO) reminded Kagay-anons not to be complacent as daily cases reached double digit numbers in July.
During Monday morning’s weekly press briefing on the city’s COVID-19 response, CHO medical officer Dr. Ted Yu Jr. said the city logged about 244 cases from July 1 to 24. ‘From 22 cases for the July 1 to 7 period, the city saw a steady increase to 45 cases from July 7 to 14, about 73 cases from July 15 to 21 and 37 cases for July 22 to 24,’ Dr. Yu said.
CHO data showed that as of 10 pm of July 25, the city logged 12 new cases with 73 active cases. The following day, the city logged 18 new cases with 80 active cases. ‘While the city experienced a drop in cases to single digits last March 2 which lasted up to end of June with 21 weekly cases and three daily cases (at the time), our cases began to pick up in July,’ Dr. Yu said.
The uptick in cases began on the week ending July 14 as the city logged six cases and 45 weekly cases. From then on,, the city averaged double digit cases with 10 cases daily and 73 cases last July 21 and 12 daily cases and 37 weekly cases logged on the week ending July 24, Dr. Yu said. Despite these numbers, Dr. Yu said the city’s average daily health risk indicators remain at low risk.
‘Based on data we got from (the Department of Health’s) FASSSTER Philippines, Cagayan de Oro City’s average health care utilization rate (HCUR) is at 18 percent last July 24 or three points up from 15 percent in July 17. Our total bed utilization rate is 9.6 percent as of July 24 which is slightly higher than the nine percent recorded in July 17,’ Dr. Yu said.
‘Again as we speak our major health risk indicators are still at low risk. Our bed utilization rate (total bed capacity of 323 beds for the city’s private and public hospitals) is still low with the cutoff rate for bed use capacity (for low risk) at 30 percent,’ Dr. Yu said. He and City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla echoed Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy’s reminder to Kagay-anons to complete their primary vaccine dosage to include their booster shots.
