THE eight-year-old female dengue patient who tested positive for Covid-19 was discharged after her condition improved, the City Health Office (CHO) said yesterday.
“I’ve followed up her case and I received the good news that she is scheduled for discharge earlier today (Tuesday morning at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center) after her condition improved,” CHO medical officer Dr. Ted Yu Jr. confirmed to Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno during Tuesday afternoon’s City Hall press briefing.
The eight-year-old female resident of Barangay Macasandig was confined at the Emerging-Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases (Ereid) section of the state-run NMMC for the past few days. Dr. Yu said she was in severe condition but managed to eventually recover.
“Thank God she recovered, her condition was concerning because she was sick with both dengue and Covid-19,” Moreno said.
The eight-year-old who was still unvaccinated was one of five patients confined at the NMMC’s Ereid section which houses Covid-19 patients in critical condition.
Two patents from Misamis Oriental province are reportedly unvaccinated, one from Iligan City and one from Lanao del Sur province. A pregnant female patient who tested positive for the virus and was unvaccinated also recovered, the CHO reported.
Otherwise, Cagayan de Oro City’s health risk indicators remain at low levels sustaining the Alert Level 1 status the city had been designated with by the national government for the past few months, Moreno said.
Dr. Yu pointed out that Intensive Care Unit bed use and mechanical ventilator use remained at zero percent from May 31 to June 5 while isolation bed use is pegged at 4.5 percent.
That along with the city’s overall Health Care Utilization Rate which hovered from as low as 1.28 percent to 1.51 percent for the May 31 to June 5 period gave the basis for Moreno’s executive order to lift the curfew, Dr. Yu said.
“These indicators are sustained for nearly two months (including the campaign and election period) now,” Dr. Yu said. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
