Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas could not hide his pleasure over the low electricity rates enjoyed by residents and businesses through MORE Electric and Power Corp. in the past five months
In a statement on Facebook, Treñas also cited the improved utility services of MORE Power Iloilo in just two years of handling power distribution services in the city.
MORE Power secured a 25-year franchise via Republic Act 11212 which was signed into law in February 2019.
In middle of 2021, MORE Power lowered power rates from P11 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) to P6 after securing more affordable electricity from the grid.
“Iloilo City residents and businesses for five months now are enjoying lower electricity bills courtesy of improved utility services of More Power Iloilo. Since July, reduced rates at around P6 per kilowatt-hour for residential, intermediate, commercial and power uses, have saved more than P3/kWh less than the June billings,” Treñas said.
Apart from cheaper sources of power, the mayor also credited inexpensive electric bills to “improvements of utilities which redound to social services boost and economic benefits for the people.”
At the center of MORE Power’s efforts to improve services is the crackdown on power pilferers or jumpers and replacement of old poles and facilities.
Treñas said the affordable and reliable power supply resulted in savings for both ordinary consumers and businesses.
“We are thanking More Power for the reduction in the electric rates. It has allowed our businessmen and our residents to enjoy the low rates and set aside savings for other needs like education and health, among others.”
“Affordable energy also attracts investors and creates additional jobs. MORE Power stated the good news is their way of saying, ‘Thank you for your business and for your continued understanding and cooperation for the rehabilitation and upgrade that we are implementing towards a better, modernized but with cheap power rate distribution utility in this part of the country’,” he added.
In another statement, MORE Power thanked Treñas for appreciating its efforts to improve power distribution in Iloilo City.
“Our effort in reducing the electricity rates of Iloilo City consumers is part and parcel of our development plan for a better and modernized distribution company that provides affordable power to the Ilonggos. Your words are indeed heartening. Coming from someone all too familiar with just how taxing this kind of improvement meant all the more to us. Again, please accept our sincere thanks and rest be assured of our continuing campaign to make a difference in the life of our beloved Ilonggo consumers,” the distribution firm added.
