CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City Council has urged the Emergency Operations Center and the Department of Health-7 to refresh and remind residents on the importance of using the recommended face masks and the proper wearing of the same.
This is to combat the further spread of COVID-19 in the city.
Councilor Raul Alcoseba sponsored a resolution regarding the matter which was approved by the council Thursday.
“This representation received reports and observed that there are some Cebu City residents who are not properly wearing their face masks, and some are using cloth tube masks or bandanas as face masks which this representation believes to be not effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19 compared to recommended face mask by health experts,” said Alcoseba.
As a downtrend of cases is being observed now, Alcoseba believes that the residents should not be complacent especially in the observance of basic health protocols against COVID-19, particularly in the use of an appropriate face mask.
Based on the DOH-7 data, Cebu City recorded eight new cases on November 25, 2021, bringing the total active cases to 93.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), masks should be used as part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission of COVID-19 and save lives.
If there is a community spread of COVID-19, simple precautions such as observing physical distancing, wearing of face mask, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds, cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue are advised to be followed. — GMR (FREEMAN)
