Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday revealed that Guam is willing to help Negros Occidental in terms of economic activities and tourism.
Lacson, who was invited as the keynote speaker in the 126th celebration of Philippine Independence Day on June 8 in Guam, said he also took advantage of the opportunity to meet with officials of the Guam Economic Development Authority and Guam Visitors Bureau to invite Guamanians to visit Negros Occidental, as far as tourism is concerned.
Visiting Guam for the third time, Lacson said Guam, a United States territory in South West Pacific, had just opened up to tourism.
They’re happy that some foreign nationals visiting their area, a far cry from what I saw before, where thousands of tourists walking around. That is what we want, that foreign nationals to come and visit Negros Occidental, he added.
But Lacson, who was accompanied by Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz, Provincial Tourism Officer Cheryl Decena and Provincial Information Officer Charina Magallanes Tan in his recent visit to Guam, said a lot of work still has to be done.
In his meeting with some Guam mayors, Lacson said they are very excited in forging sister citihood with Negros Occidental.
We just have to match it so that it would be beneficial for both sides, which basically part of the tourism, he added.
Lacson also eyed economic development collaboration between the province and with Guam, following his meeting with Guam Economic Development Authority head Edward Camacho.*
