TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced that it is considering to lessen the 15 hour theoretical driving course/ seminar by half, citing that its original duration seems to be a bit long.
Currently, the LTO requires student drivers to finish 15 hours of theoretical driving courses in any accredited LTO driving school in order to secure a student driver’s permit.
However, due to the observation of the technical working group, it was pointed out during a committee hearing that the 15 hours seminar is expensive and too long.
LTO Chief Teofilo Guadiz said, “I’m looking into the possibility of reducing it to as much as seven hours for a theoretical.”
Meanwhile, for practical driving lessons, Guadiz said, he believes the 8-hour requirement for the practical driving lesson should remain.
The LTO chief said the seminar should be reduced to 7 to 8 hours only.
“We feel that about to seven to eight hours would be justified. We will just consolidate some topics; most of these are on road signs and road safety,” Guadiz said. TNF
