Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The World Health Organization’s Director-General said that the end of the COVID-19 pandemic is ‘in sight’ following last week’s lowest number of weekly reported deaths worldwide.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a presser on Wednesday, Sept 14, that the world has never been in a better post to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re not there yet, but the end is in sight, he added.
Ghebreyesus’ statement follows the lowest number of COVID-19 casualties logged last week since its onset back in March 2020.
Based on the WHO’s data, a nifty 28% drop of weekly cases have also been noted for the past months, while the death toll also decreased by 22% compared to a week prior.
The WHO top official emphasized that now that the finish line is in sight, it is time for the world to work harder to beat the lingering disease.
Although the situation seems to come to close, the WHO underscored that the threat is still present provided that more variants may still surface.
Policy briefs based on studies on COVID-19 for governments all over the globe were released to educate institutions on how to take action towards ending the pandemic.
The worldwide health agency reiterated that vaccination is key to ending the problem, citing that governments must beef up inoculation efforts especially boosters in third world countries. TNF
