Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Department of Health said on Wednesday, June 22, that it has detected 32 more cases of the new COVID-19 Omicron subvariant BA.5 in the country.
The health department bared that 21 of the said infections are from Region 6; 4 are from Region 4-A; 4 are from NCR; while the other 3 are from Region 3.
With the 32 new reported cases of the new strain, the total count of the Omicron BA.5 subvariant in the country is pushed up to 43.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the new cases have no known prior exposure to infected patients while their travel histories are still under investigation.
Vergeire disclosed that 30 out the 32 cases are fully vaccinated vs COVID-19 while 1 has only received an initial vaccine dose while the other one is still being probed.
Based on the DOH’s report, there are 5 asymptomatic patients, 22 had mild symptoms while the other 5 are still being checked for the symptoms they have experienced.
DOH said that 14 of the new patients are still under quarantine, the other 16 are ‘clinically recovered,’ while the other 2 are still under observation.
The agency’s reporting of new cases of new Omicron strains have experienced delays as the processing of samples at the Philippine Genome Center has a 3-week delay, the DOH admitted to reporters. TNF
