Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – In hopes to further contain the spread of the more transmissible COVID-19 Delta variant, the national government has decided to extend the travel ban on 10 countries until August 15.
Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) spokesperson Harry Roque made an announcement on Friday morning, July 30, that travelers from the previously listed 10 countries are still not allowed to enter PH.
Roque clarified that the countries included in the IATF’s travel ban list are Oman, UAE, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
Initially, the travel restrictions were supposed to end on Saturday, July 31, but due to the threat of another surge in COVID-19 from the Delta variant strain, the national government has decided to implement the extension.
The health department has reported 97 new cases of the Delta variant on Thursday, pushing the total infections from the new strain to 216.
So far, DOH Region 2 still has no confirmatory reports of any cases from the Delta variant in Cagayan Valley. TNF
