CEBU, Philippines — The Commission on Elections has added more days for the voter’s registration to accommodate more applicants.
The deadline for the voter’s registration for the May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections was originally scheduled for September 30, 2021 but the Comelec extended it until October 30, 2021.
The Comelec has resumed its voter’s registration on October 11, 2021 after the weeklong filing of the certificates of candidacy for those aspiring for national and local positions.
With the remaining days of the registrations, the Comelec opens its local offices from Mondays to Saturdays.
Cebu City Election Assistant Officer Omar Mamalinta said they have registration at Robinson’s Galleria yesterday while on October 23, there is also registration at SM Seaside City Cebu for the north and south district applicants.
On October 18 until 22, there is also a registration at Ayala Central Bloc for the north district and SM Seaside City Cebu for south district while on October 25 until 30, the registration will be held at Ayala Center Cebu.
Aside from adding more days, the Comelec also extended the registration hours up to 7 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
The Comelec in Cebu City is appealing those who have not yet registered not to wait for the last day of the registration to avoid overcrowding at the venue.
“Please do register now dili na mohuwat sa deadline kay base on experience daghan kaayo motapok sa deadline hopefully you will response to our call,” Mamalinta said.
Meanwhile, close to 20,000 have registered in the past one week of extended voter’s registration in the Province of Cebu and in highly-urbanized cities.
Record at the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor (OPES) showed that 19,836 have registered from October 11 until 15.
Of the new registrants, 1,805 in Cebu City first district; 1,539 in Cebu City second district: 1,340 in Mandaue City; 3,200 in Lapu-Lapu City while 11,952 in the Province of Cebu. — Le Phyllis F. Antojado, GMR (FREEMAN)
