CEBU, Philippines — The Commission on Elections-Cebu Province is expecting majority of the aspirants for the 2022 elections to file their certificates of candidacy (COC) on the last days of filing.
From the first day to the fourth day of the filing, only six aspirants filed their respective COCs based on the record of the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor (OPES).
At least two filed for the congressional post: incumbent third district Representative Pablo John “PJ” Garcia who seeks reelection, and incumbent Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. for the first district.
For the Provincial Board members, incumbent PB Members Yolanda Daan and Raul Bacaltos, both of the first district, filed their COCs seeking for reelection on the first day of the filing.
On October 3, a certain Frederico Garcia filed his COC as an independent candidate for PB member in the sixth district. Emmanuel Birao is also running for PB post in the third district under Abag Promdi Party.
Yesterday, no one filed their COC.
Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said they are expecting that majority of the aspirants will file on the last days of the filing of COC.
He said some politicians have beliefs on lucky numbers and dates.
“Daghan kaayo tinoohan ang mga kandidato. Ang atong last day petsa 8 gud, it is supposed to be a lucky number sa Chinese so ang uban sad seguro they need time makahibalo kinsa ilang kontra,” Castillano said.
He reminded the aspirants to make sure that their COCs are complete if they prefer to file on the last day.
“Hopefully, ayaw tong kung alanganin na pud kaayo ka last day, naa pud sipyat sa imong COC wala nay panahon pag correct kay dili baya gyud ipadawat sa amo ang incomplete COC,” Castillano said. — GMR (FREEMAN)
