OUTGOING Second District Board Member Anthony “Tonton” Torres filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for Guagua town, Pampanga mayor before the office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) with his council lineup and with Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda in tow.
Pineda affirmed his support for Torres and his team. The governor said he firmly believes in the capability of Torres to lead Guagua and to usher in new governance that is responsive to the needs of the people and the times.
Torres is running with his slogan “Tulong Tulong Tayo” under the local Kambilan Party. His running mate is Councilor June Lim. His line up include Roan Reyes, Mike Mangiliman, Michelle Rivera, Eugene Ponio, Alain Laquindanum, Jovy Tulio and Rolly Guiam.
Torres said he is banking on his nine-year performance in the provincial board, where he currently chairs the committees on education, trade and industry, and cooperative development, to convince his townmates of his capability to serve them as mayor.
A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in industrial engineering, Torres said his platform will be “grounded on both the needs and potentials for development” of Guagua.
“We are looking at further developing all the major potential areas of Guagua and setting up a ready resiliency plan for the town to combat Covid-19,” Torres said.
He said Guagua has untapped opportunities and sectors needing further development to realize full potential.
Torres said considerable support will be given to the town’s agriculture and commercial industry sector.
Torres is set to focus on agriculture with plans for post-harvest facilities and capacitating farmers to gain access to credit and other government support like technology and machinery to ensure a better yield of agricultural produce.
