PRESIDENT Enrique Baking announced Monday, July 12, 2021, that the Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) will soon offer Juris Doctor degree pending the permit from the legal education board.

This, as the state university moves to diversify its course offerings despite the ongoing pandemic.

Baking said the state university is ready to offer the degree through its College of Law once all necessary permits are accomplished probably before the opening of classes in September of Academic Year 2021 to 2022.

“Once this is realized, we will also offer allied medical courses in line with revised charter of the university to further cater to the needs of the community,” Baking said, stressing that the new developments could not have been realized without the help of Third District Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr.

It could be remembered that President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) 11169 in 2019, elevating a technological school into a comprehensive state university. The new law renamed the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) to Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU) and amended its charter.

Gonzales, who was behind RA 9832, said the new law will allow the university to offer additional courses in the liberal arts, medical and allied medical fields on top of those allowed under RA 9832.

Specifically, the programs that are responsive to the needs of both the society and industry are envisioned to be integrated in the existing offerings of the university like Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing, BS in Pharmacy, BS in Medical Technology, BS in Physical Therapy, Bachelor of Arts (AB) Political Science, AB Philosophy, and AB Mass Communication, among others.

Baking said that allied medical courses will soon be the next focus of concern by the university.

With the ongoing construction of buildings for additional classrooms as well as development of other infrastructure and support facilities, Baking is confident of the total readiness of the university once face-to-face classes are allowed.

He also stressed that the university is ready to offer new courses.

“We are ready in case of face-to-face classes and despite of the ongoing pandemic, the university was able to transition to online and distance education with ease,” Baking added.
