DAVAO City targets to collect P18 million in parking fees for the year 2023, according to the City Treasurer’s Office on January 5.
During the I-Speak media forum, CTO head Atty. Lawrence Bantiding said they were not able to reach the target of P18 million to P20 million last year because of external challenges particularly the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing construction of roads.
During the first half of 2022, only a total of P5 million in parking fees were collected by the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO).
However, with more relaxed restrictions currently in place, Bantiding is positive the target can be reached.
“I think for this year, a lot of the areas under construction that are devoted for parking are almost done so we are hoping our target can be achieved,” he said.
The Public Pay Parking Zones in the city, implemented since the start of 2020, are located along the streets of San Pedro, Ilustre, Pelayo, Iñigo, Villa Abrille, Monteverde, and Duterte that caters to motorcycles and light vehicles.
Meanwhile, the possibility of a spacious additional pay parking area in downtown Davao City is still vague as no investor had expressed interest to start the venture.
“Nobody applied to us to start a huge pay parking space, I think the area is one consideration. Wala tayo mahanap dito sa downtown area (There is no suitable space in the downtown area),” Business Bureau head Maribel Paguican said during the media forum.
She added that there are a few private enterprises for pay parking but can only cater to limited vehicles at a time because of the small space. ICM
