Based on the latest monitoring of the task force, 19 deaths were recorded during Week 36 or from September 4 to 10.
In the prior week, 17 deaths were recorded, and 14 deaths three weeks ago.
“Although ang positivity rate naga-average ta og 10 to 11 percent on a daily basis pero significant gyud kaayo na naga-taas atong deaths. For three weeks now, since nag surge ta, double-digit na atong (death) cases (Although our positivity rate averages 10 to 11 percent on a daily basis, our death cases are significantly increasing. For three weeks now, we are seeing a double-digit amount of death cases),” Schlosser said during a radio interview.
According to Schlosser, most of the victims are senior citizens but warned that young age groups can still develop a severe case of the coronavirus and lead to a critical condition.
Of the 19 deaths recorded in week 36, 11 belong to the vulnerable age group.
“Pero dili pasabot na wala na’y mamatay sa kabatan-onan because for this week, naa ta’y duha na namatay sa atong less than five years old (age group) (But this does not mean that the youth are not vulnerable to it because we actually recorded two deaths that were less than five years of age),” Schlosser said.
The spokesperson reiterates that vaccination against Covid-19 remains an important protection against coronavirus or developing a severe case if infected.
“Kung dili man nato mapigilan ang transmission, at least ma-prevent nato ang kamatayan because of Covid-19 (if we cannot stop the transmission, at least we can prevent death caused by Covid-19). The only protection from the severity of the disease that can lead to death is only through the vaccine,” she said.
