THE Department of Education in Davao Region (DepEd-Davao) reminded guardians to follow school protocols after a video went viral online of parents complaining about why they cannot go inside the school premises.
Spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said during a virtual presser on Wednesday, August 24, that the parents in the said video were probably not informed or not present at the orientation held by the school about the policies.
Atillo said that in the video, parents were complaining why they cannot go inside the campus to drop their young children directly in the classrooms. Rather they were made to wait at the gate of the school.
“Naay musugat nga teacher. Ang eskwelahan pa, manigkamot gyod na siya na maproteksyonan ang kabataan kay dili pud na gusto og problema (The teacher will pick up the children from the gate. The schools ensure that the children are safe because they also don’t want any problems),” Atillo said.
At the same time, Atillo reminded the public to refrain from posting negative posts about schools and teachers, especially if it already maligns them. He said parents can address their concerns directly to school authorities.
“The comments under that video is maligning the person and the principal. Professional baya na sila, tao baya na (They are humans and professionals too)… We can send naman messages healthily and send messages appropriately,” Atillo said.
The School Year 2022-2023 opened on August 22, 2022 for both public and private institutions in all 2,698 schools in Davao Region. ICM
