DepEd-Davao Spokesperson Jenielito Atillo said during an interview on May 4, 2022, that they are waiting for the national office of DepEd to release a complete guideline on how to conduct EOSY for primary and secondary education.
“If there is no guideline, we are not approving any request… to implement recognition, graduation, and moving up ceremonies because the guidelines really will tell us the specifics of how to conduct it,” Atillo said.
Although unspecified, Atillo said DepEd-Davao has received a lot of requests from schools to conduct F2F EOSY but said they are not approving any so far, especially requests from private learning institutions.
“There is also a grey area with respect to that because there are schools who are not conducting the F2F learning modality but are now requesting for F2F EOSY so that’s why we wanted this to be clarified by the DepEd central office by way of a guideline,” he said.
Atillo said they will reconsider their position on the EOSY rites once a guideline from DepEd central office has been released.
“We will reconsider the position but as of current, we are saying that we are denying all the recommendations,” he said.
As of April, 419 public schools out of 430 total in Davao City are conducting limited F2F classes.
Atillo previously said schools can conduct F2F classes under Alert level 1 and 2 but will be automatically suspended if an area is placed under Alert Level 3 or higher, which means online or other learning modalities will resume.
