THE local campaign for the 2022 elections is in full swing, as local candidates in Davao City conduct their kick-off rally in the three districts on March 25.

Supporters from the Third District of Davao City filled Calinan Gym as candidates and representatives under the Hugpong ng Pagbabago and Hugpong ng Tawong Lungsod (HNP-HTL) slate lead their first campaign rally for this year’s elections season.

The Calinan rally was attended by notable candidate Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who is running as mayor of Davao City after his first term alongside sister Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“Sa tinuod lang, pag tanaw ko kaniadto sa politika sa Pilipinas, wala naman ko ganahi gyod. Pero nagpasalamat ko sa inyo, gitabangan gyod ninyo akong pamilya. Karon tanawa, unsa nahitabo sa atong nasud — kamo nakita na ninyo,” Duterte said during their campaign rally.

He added that for his term as mayor, he will continue and prioritize peace and order, which is what his political family has been known for in Davao City.

The vice mayor is running against lawyer Ruy Elias Lopez, son of the late former Davao City mayor Elias Lopez. Lopez has not announced any campaign activity for the kick-off the campaign period for local candidates.

Meanwhile, Mags Maglana is running for the position of Davao City First District representative against Paolo Duterte, who is seeking reelection for the position.

Maglana, along with her team, went around the First District via sikad tricycles to greet voters, while representative Paolo was not present at the HNP-HTL kick-off rally.

Prior to this, Maglana also attended the campaign sortie of Vice President Leni Robredo in Digos City on Thursday, March 24, to show support.

The campaign period for local candidates will last for 45 days from March 25 to May 8, 2022, one day before the national elections on May 9.
