Uy said in a radio interview that his symptoms exhibited on Monday, January 17, including cough and colds. He immediately had himself tested using rapid tests, which yielded positive results.
The next day, he said, he underwent swabbing, which also turned out positive.
The governor said he immediately isolated himself at his residence for the next seven to 10 days.
He said he only manifested mild symptoms.
“So far, niarang-arang naman akong pamati compared to yesterday [January 19]. Naa lang koy gamay na ubo, ug sipon. Ang nakagwapo wala koy fever. Ang akong pangsimhot nawala, ug akong panlasa (my condition had already improved compared to yesterday. I only had mild coughs and colds. The good thing is that I didn’t have a fever. I also lost my sense of smell and taste),” Uy said in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.
The official said he is still working from home, doing his duties and responsibilities as governor.
Uy encouraged those with whom he had close contact to undergo self-isolation and have themselves tested if they would manifest signs and symptoms.
Davao de Oro cases go up
The governor said the province, still under Alert Level 2 until January 31, is also experiencing an exponential rise of cases.
Uy said they are also anticipating that the surge would be further experienced in the province by February this year.
According to the Department of Health-Davao Region data as of January 19, Davao de Oro has recorded 38 new cases, bringing the total active cases to 204. Since the start of pandemic in March 2020, the province has already recorded 8,035 total confirmed cases, wherein 7,420 recovered and 411 died.
Uy said the province’s Covid-19 situation was improving around two weeks ago with only 24 active cases.
He said the relaxed restrictions and the gatherings during the holiday season were among the factors to the recent spike in active cases.
Thus, the governor said the pandemic is still around, with him not being spared from getting infected despite being fully vaccinated and having received his booster shot before the end of 2021.
As of last week, Uy said the province had already reached more than 53 percent fully vaccinated residents. By February, he said, they would be able to reach herd immunity.
Admittedly, he said there are some municipalities that are experiencing low turnout of vaccinees.
He also reminded his constituents to continuously abide with the minimum health protocols.
