“Ni kabat na gyod tag 1,000 sobra for two days in a row. Actually the positivity rate is by far the highest positivity rate na natala diri sa Davao,” said Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force, during a radio interview on January 21.

As of January 21, there were 1,540 new cases in Davao City, totaling to 5,906 active cases, which is the highest among the other provinces in Davao region.
Schlosser said at least 15 percent of the active cases are vaccinated but may still increase since some cases are pending verification.
“The data is showing na ma-infect gihapon ang tao even if bakunado ka (but mild). Ang importante is you have to have your bakuna and you have to follow the MPHS (minimum public health standard) and booster shot,” said Schlosser.

Meanwhile, in the January 21 Regional Daily Case Bulletin of the Department of Health Davao Region (DOH-Davao), Davao Region recorded 1,923 new cases, making the total active cases region-wide now at 7,930.
Davao del Norte recorded the second highest number of cases for the day, after Davao City, with 156 new cases, followed by Davao del Sur with 111 cases, while Davao de Oro had the least number of cases with only fourteen new cases.
Davao Occidental and Davao Oriental both recorded less than 100 cases, with 31 and 71 new cases, respectively.
Out of the 7,930 total active cases in the region, 5,906 cases were from Davao City, 929 cases were from Davao del Norte, 495 cases were from Davao del Sur, 286 were from Davao de Oro, and 253 were from Davao Oriental.
Only Davao Occidental has not yet surpassed the 100 mark for total number of active cases.
DOH-Davao also reported 227 recoveries as of January 21, the majority of which were from Davao City with 207 recoveries.
Three recoveries were recorded in Davao de Oro and Davao del Sur, seven and six recoveries from Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental, respectively, while Davao Occidental had one recovery.
With this development, the region had 648 or 39 percent ward beds available, while 215 or 44.7 percent ICU beds, and 809 or 51.7 percent isolation beds were available. A total 111 or 69.4 percent mechanical ventilators were also available in the region.
