“Very promising ang result nga nakuha nato sa [Bayanihan Bakunahan] Phase 1. (The Phase 1 of the Bayanihan Bakunahan had very promising results.) Davao Region had a very good output,” Nograles said during the One Davao on Covid-19 virtual presser on Wednesday, December 15.
Nograles said the three-day vaccination drive held from November 29 to December 1 initially targeted to achieve 15 million targeted jabbed Covid-19 vaccines nationwide. But this was lowered to nine million.
The Bayanihan Bakunahan, however, was extended for two more days.
According to the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao, a total of 385,824 individuals in Davao Region were vaccinated during the week-long Bayanihan Bakunahan: from November 29 to December 3, 2021.
The region, according to Nograles, did not lower its target.
“As a result, we were able to achieve a very high daily jab rate,” he said, adding that the region hit 128,000 jabs in a single day.
“That’s a very good output,” Nograles added.
Dr. Janis Olavides, vaccination team leader of DOH Davao, said in a previous presser that the region, on average, would only generate 73,000 doses.
The Cabinet head said that Davao City, prior to the NVD, had already had a relatively high output compared to other cities for the first dose with 78 percent. But this further increased to 91 percent after the Bayanihan Bakunahan.
He is hoping that the city would finally reach 100 percent in the second round of the vaccine rollout.
Nograles also saw an increase in vaccinated targets of other provinces in the region following the NVD. For Davao de Oro, he said the number of vaccinations for the first dose has increased to 55 percent from 39 percent. In Davao del Norte, the figure also increased to 70 percent from 48 percent.
Other provinces also logged an increase in first dose targets such as Davao del Sur (54 percent from 36 percent); Davao Occidental (52 percent from 36 percent); and Davao Oriental (66 percent from 55 percent).
Overall, Nograles said vaccination for the first dose in the region reached 71 percent from 55 percent.
“We hope with the same support sa Bayanihan Bakunahan Phase 2, kaning tanang first doses nato, mas mutaas siya, and ang atong second doses nato muapas na mas taas (those who will be vaccinated with the first dose would hopefully increase. Likewise we also hope those who will be vaccinated for the second dose will also increase),” he said.
The second round of the Bayanihan Bakunahan was supposed to be slated on December 15 to 17, but this was moved to December 20 to 22 due to the Typhoon Odette which affected some parts of Davao Region, particularly Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental.
Olavides, meanwhile, said they are targeting to vaccinate around 100,000 per day in the second round of the three-day NVD for the entire region.
