THE Davao City Government and the Department of Health (DOH)-Davao Region are currently discussing the administration of Covid-19 vaccine booster shots for medical frontliners.
Covid-19 Task Force Spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said in a radio interview that while there is no definite date yet for the rollout of booster shots for medical health frontliners, they have already made initial preparations for this already.
“I can confirm na meron na tayong usapan about sa booster dose labi na gyud sa atong frontliners (We do not have updates as to when but I can confirm that there are already talks about booster dose especially for our frontliners),” Schlosser said.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III recently approved the recommendation of the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) on the provision of Covid-19 vaccine booster shots.
The HTAC recommended the booster vaccination of health workers and senior citizens in the fourth quarter of 2021, and among eligible priority groups, such as frontline essential workers and persons with comorbidities, in 2022.
It stressed, however, that this will be done once there is sufficient supply of vaccines and the acceptable vaccination coverage has already been achieved, especially the 70 percent of the target population in the hotspot regions, including National Capital Region, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Calabarzon, and Central Luzon.
It can be recalled that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio bared that the Davao City Covid-19 Task Force has passed a resolution requesting DOH-Davao to roll out booster shots for health care workers in all hospitals in the city.
The mayor said the Covid-19 Task Force saw the need for a resolution in line with the manpower challenges in the hospitals brought about by the pandemic.
