DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced on Monday, October 4, 2021, that her initial plan to leave the country and go on medical leave for a few days will not push through.

Duterte-Carpio said in a radio interview that her medical leave scheduled from October 5 to 8 is already canceled after one of her companions for the trip tested positive for coronavirus.

“Ang amoang biyahe is na-cancelled because isa sa among kauban didto sa mulakaw is Covid-19 positive. Dili to ako,” Duterte-Carpio said in an interview on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio.

(Our trip is already canceled because one of our companions for that trip tested positive for coronavirus. It is not me who tested positive.)

The mayor said they were informed that Singapore will not allow them entry following the positive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result of their colleague.

Duterte-Carpio said the RT-PCR test results came in on Monday morning.

It can be recalled that Duterte-Carpio took a leave from September 28 to October 5, 2020, to assist an unnamed person due to medical reasons. The mayor also took a leave from April 6 to 10, 2021 when she flew to Singapore for personal health reasons.

She also revealed that she will, once again, take another leave in April 2022.

She earlier said she will be taking a leave due to medical reasons. However, she did not further elaborate.

The mayor’s leave coincided with the schedule of filing of certificate of candidacy (COC).

Duterte-Carpio already filed her COC for reelection on Saturday, October 2.

This was despite the recent pronouncement of President Rodrigo Duterte that he will no longer be running for vice president, and that the tandem of Duterte-Carpio and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go will commence.

Duterte-Carpio declined to cater to the questions of the media regarding the President’s statement.

The mayor also reiterated her decision of not running for the national position.

However, various groups backing her presidency are not giving up in urging her to run, as the COC filing is still until October 8.
