City Councilor Phillip Zafra, chairman of the committee on peace and order, told SunStar Cebu on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2022, they gave the recommendation to Mayor Michael Rama as a security measure.
Zafra said that they met with officials of the Cebu City Police Office and other emergency personnel on Friday, Oct. 14, to finalize preparations for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 1 and 2, respectively.
There will be no limit to the number of individuals who can enter cemeteries but Zafra said people are encouraged to wear face masks.
However, the traditional overnight stay in cemeteries will not be allowed despite the easing of the pandemic restrictions.
“We suggested based on the consensus that the visit to cemeteries will only be up to 10 p.m. That it is already late in the evening and it is enough, especially for those who work during the day,” Zafra said in Cebuano.
According to Zafra, they might install closed-circuit television cameras in major cemeteries to provide more security to the public. (IRT / PJB)
