A SEPTUAGENARIAN was killed after he was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the street in Barangay Poblacion Pardo, Cebu City past 11 p.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022.
The victim was identified as 77-year-old Benjamin King, a resident in the area.
King died from severe injuries in the head and in different parts of his body.
The motorcycle was driven by Clyde Engaska, a 22-year-old college student.
Engaska was reportedly late for an exam at school, which was why he was in a hurry. Because he was going fast, he couldn’t avoid King who was crossing the pedestrian lane.
Master Sergeant Edilberto Gabucan Jr., traffic investigator of the Inayawan Police Station, said King was thrown several meters away from the impact.
“The motorcycle was coming from the south and heading for the city. Engaska said he didn’t notice King until it was too late,” Gabucan said in Cebuano.
A medical team was quick to arrive at the scene, but the victim was no longer moving and didn’t have a pulse.
Engaska is detained in the Inayawan Police Station pending the filing of charges against him. (AYB, PJB)
