Partido Reporma-Cebu chairman Arnold Romaguera said some local officials in Cebu and their allies have already started to campaign for Robredo.
“We agree with our party president, Congressman Pantaleon Alvarez, that we need a leader. For the 2022 presidential election, given all these considerations and the crisis we have to overcome, that leader is a woman. Her name is Leni Robredo,” Romaguera said.
Romaguera noted that electoral alliances are no longer new to Philippine politics and they have been convinced of Robredo’s leadership.
“As the campaign is moving forward, the party has discovered that Robredo’s platform and programs are clear and specific that resonate to the Filipinos’ aspirations to have good governance and a leader with integrity,” Romaguera added.
He said while Robredo’s rival Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is a formidable opponent, with Partido Reporma’s political machinery now working closely with Robredo’s group, the Vice President stands a great chance in the upcoming elections especially here in Cebu where Robredo won more than 500,000 votes against Marcos in the 2016 vice presidential elections.
Alvarez, a Davao del Norte congressman and former House Speaker who is the president of Partido Reporma earlier endorsed Robredo dropping their candidate, Lacson.
Lacson is now running as an independent.
Alvarez said with currently only two frontrunners in the presidential race (Robredo and Marcos), the “decisive action” to support Robredo was necessary as he stressed the need to set aside personal preferences to achieve “collective victory for good governance, a better future for Filipinos, and a strong and progressive nation.”
“We reasonably believe that the only realistic option at this point, with roughly a month and a half left, is to converge with Leni Robredo’s campaign. Together, we will pursue the realization of our collective aspirations to improve the chances of ordinary Filipinos at a better life,” Alvarez said.
