This is what Vice Presidential aspirant and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in an interview with reporters at the newly inaugurated BBM-Sara headquarters in Barangay Poblacion, Liloan town in northern Cebu, Friday, March 18, 2022.
“We already have ways that we forwarded to the legal team on what to do regarding questions and issues with regard to the procedure and system of Comelec in the conduct of the May 2022 election,” said Duterte-Carpio in a mix of Cebuano and English.
However, the mayor did not elaborate on what these measures would be.
On Thursday, March 17, Sen. Imee Marcos accused Smartmatic, provider of the automated elections system and vote-counting machines, of a security breach.
The lawmaker said one of the company’s employees had gained access to confidential information.
The senator’s allegation came a few months after a Manila Bulletin news report in January that claimed that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) servers had been hacked.
The Comelec has repeatedly denied the allegations and asserted that its system had not been hacked.
Smartmatic also released a statement on Thursday, insisting that the 2022 automated election was not hacked and denied that its infrastracture had been compromised.
When Duterte-Carpio was asked if she trusts Smartmatic, the mayor refused to answer and asked for another question.
Provincial Headquarters
Duterte-Carpio led the inauguration of the Cebu Provincial Campaign Headquarters of the UniTeam BBM-Sara tandem.
According to Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco, the campaign headquarters is a testament of support to the tandem.
“We built this headquarters to express our very strong support for the victory of the UniTeam,” said Garcia-Frasco in Cebuano.
Earlier that day, Duterte-Carpio attended a luncheon with local candidates of the Fifth District of Cebu who are aligned with Garcia-Frasco and her husband, Rep. Duke Frasco.
