Rotary Club of Cebu president Jacob Ong said they started making rounds in Cebu together with the ShelterBox on the last week of December last year to distribute shelter kits to the affected families so they can rebuild their houses that were destroyed by the typhoon.
Their first stop was in Sibonga town, southern Cebu where they distributed shelter kits containing tarpaulins, ropes, saw, hammers and solar lights to the 620 families, and then they moved to Argao where another 330 shelter kits were distributed.
They also gave shelter kits worth P3,200 with each kit containing 10 corrugated GI sheets, two kilos umbrella nails, a hammer and a saw to another 500 families in other parts of Cebu.
In Cebu City, the group distributed 80 shelter kits in Barangay Pamutan and 159 shelter kits in Barangay Tabunan, both villages are in the city’s upland.
Rotary Club of Cebu also distributed another 450 shelter kits in Barangays Sudlon 1 and Sudlon 2 on Saturday, Feb. 26.
“The activity today was the first time that presidents and secretaries from 17 Rotary Clubs in Cebu participated,” Ong said.
Ong thanked the Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Grant of Rotary District 3860, the Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Grant of Rotary District 3810 and Shelterbox UK for supporting the project.
Ong said they prioritize the giving of assistance to those families whose houses were destroyed.
He said they would continue the distribution in the coming months once they receive the additional supplies from their donors.
