AS PART of its post-Odette recovery efforts, the Cebu Provincial Government has planned to procure 1.5 million pieces of galvanized iron (GI) sheets to be given to around 300,000 households in the province that were affected by the typhoon.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia met with the representatives of Batangas-based Puyat Steel Corp. on Friday, December 31, 2021, to discuss a possible deal to source from the manufacturer the GI sheets needed by the Provincial Government for its house rebuilding program, reported Sugbo News, the Cebu Provincial Government’s official news platform.

The governor alongside Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials negotiated with Puyat Steel representatives to give a “humanitarian price,” or discounted price, in the Capitol’s post-Typhoon Odette efforts.

The Department of Trade and Industry Central Visayas (DTI 7) linked the Provincial Government with Puyat Steel on the possibility of supplying roofing materials at subsidized prices to survivors of Typhoon Odette who belong to the lower income bracket.

Negotiations for the bulk order and price are ongoing between the Capitol and Puyat Steel.

Continuous supply

Puyat Steel assured the DTI 7 of a continuous supply of these roofing materials to help in the rebuilding of damaged homes, warehouses and factories in the provinces of Cebu and Bohol.

The company has also committed to DTI 7 and the Cebu Provincial Government that a shipment of containers of roofing materials will arrive in Cebu on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022.

Puyat Steel has redirected its supply of roofing materials for Luzon to Cebu and other typhoon-affected areas, Sugbo News reported.
