A RADIO reporter and award-winning journalist has filed his certificate of candidacy to run as a councilman in his hometown in Ginatilan, southwestern Cebu.

Jose Gregy Magdadaro formally filed his COC before the Ginatilan municipal election office on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Magdadaro, a radio reporter for dySS and a correspondent for Superbalita Cebu, is running under the administration bloc of Ginatilan Mayor Dean Michael Singco.

Singco and his bloc are members of One Cebu, the party of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Magdadaro told SunStar Cebu that he was surprised when he was invited by Singco to join his team.

After discussing the matter with his wife, Magdadaro decided to join Singco’s team.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. If I don’t grab it, I don’t know when it will come,” Magdadaro said, in Cebuano.

He said that he wanted to join politics to help his fellow Ginatilan residents.

Despite being a reporter for so many years, Magdadaro admitted that he is not sure if his media experience will be an advantage when running for public office.

“I don’t if it will even be a factor. As you know, I also have to campaign and show to my fellow Ginatilanons what I am capable of. They won’t look at you just because you work in the media,” he added.

Before becoming a radioman, Magdadaro was formerly a TV reporter for GMA 7.

In 2014, Magdadaro was one of 20 journalists across the nation awarded by the SM Foundation with the Super Media Award, which awards journalists for their coverage of Super Typhoon Yolanda which devastated various part of the Visayas in 2013. (JKV)
