Electoral aspirants of Team Mandaue file COCs; Cortes seeks re-election

INCUMBENT Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes seeks re-election in the 2022 national and local elections after filing his certificate of candidacy with his entire slate of Team Mandaue on Friday, October 8, 2021.

The incumbent Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede will also seek re-election as well as the incumbent city councilors Nerissa, Soon-Ruiz, Malcolm Sanchez, Jimmy Lumapas, Cynthia Cinco-Remedio, Immaline Cortes-Zafra, Cesar “Ting Sol” Cabahug Jr., Jesus Jun Arcilla, Joel Seno, and Andreo Ouano-Icalina.

Since Mandaue City will soon be a lone district, Team Mandaue has welcome three new members to complete his slate for councilors — incumbent Casuntingan Barangay Captain Oscar Del Castillo, incumbent Tingub Barangay Captain Mario Bihag, and Jen Del Mar, the daughter of the late Mandaue City Councilor Jun Del Mar.

In his press conference, Cortes told the media that the political families of Cortes, Soon, and Ouano will still remain solid in this coming elections.

It can be recalled that Team Mandaue won majority during the 2019 local elections.

Since they assumed office in 2019, Cortes said there is a political harmony in the city despite the challenges that the local officials face during this pandemic which they have faced fearlessly.

As Team Mandaue runs for re-election, Cortes said they will still prioritize the interest of the residents of Mandaue City.

In case the Mandaue City voters will choose Team Mandaue again in the coming elections, Cortes said they will still give more importance to the health of its residence considering that Covid-19 will still be present despite achieving the herd immunity.

He said that Team Mandaue will see to it that the health centers in Mandaue City will have enough assistance from the government considering that they are the frontliners in this pandemic.

Aside from that, Cortes said he will focus on the disaster preparedness, education, and infrastructure to have an inclusive development to provide every resident a productive and decent life.

Also, he said he will continue to implement vertical socialize housing in partnership of the developers in the city as part of their compliance to the Balanced Housing.

Cortes also mentioned his notable achievements such as a debt-free Mandaue City and highest turnout of Covid-19 vaccination in Metro Cebu. (KFD)
