Lemana said they had a meeting yesterday, October 13, where they were told that the reported ASF case in Iloilo has no confirmation yet from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
“We assure [the public] that, here in Negros Occidental, our swine industry is still ASF-free,” Lemana assured.
She said the result of the test on possible ASF case in Iloilo is expected to be released by the BAI today, October 14.
“The region cannot come up with an advisory without the confirmation,” Lemana stressed.
She said that they have been observing strict monitoring in various sea ports and at the airport.
“In case there is already confirmation that there’s a positive case of ASF in Iloilo, we will put up additional measures and security to make sure that such dangerous disease on swine would not enter the province,” she said.
Lemana added that they have to protect the province’s swine industry which is already a P6 billion industry.*
