That makes the total project cost at P850 million, of which, P250 million was requested from the Department of Health.
Zubiri, who led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Bacolod City General Hospital (BCGH) in Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, reiterated that it’s a high time to have our own hospital.
He said that with the establishment of the BCGH, it will decongest the existing hospitals in the city including the government-run Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).
It will likewise give the Bacolodnons’ quality healthcare that is more affordable than in private hospitals, Zubiri added.
“On top of that, by establishing the BCGH, while we are giving our people a better chance of availing of public health services, we are also allowing our healthcare workers at CLMMRH to work within their capacity,” the Negrense senator
For his part, Bacolod City Congressman Greg Gasataya said the project will have two phases, wherein the main hospital will be constructed under the supervision of the DOH while other buildings surrounding it will be spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways.
Gastaya said the construction of the multi-purpose building will house various facilities in support to the operation of the proposed Type II, 100-bed capacity, government-owned General Hospital under the DOH.
Meanwhile, DPWH Regional Director Nerie Bueno explained that a portion of the area donated by the Gensoli family, where the hospital will be constructed, will also be developed.
Neri said that the project will also include the construction of three separate buildings with a total floor area of 1, 558 square meters including the 1, 288 square meter dietary building, 108 square meter morgue, and 162 square meter linen and laundry office.
Aside from that, she said that there will also be provisions for fire reserved and cistern tanks and power house among others.
‘Historic, Game-changer’
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said that the establishment of the new hospital is historic as it will become one of the most important facilities in the city while DoH Region 6 Director Adriano Sub-an calls it a “game-changer”.
Sub-an said Bacolod’s hospital is going to re-shape the structure of healthcare in Region-6, assuring that they are here to commit that this will be a sustained project.
He said that they will continue to provide the technical assistance and to ensure the compliance of the hospital in the regulatory standards of the hospital facilities as well as to ensure that they will collaborate with the research that will become the basis of improving the health services in terms of the processes and systems.
