The police identified the victims as construction worker Dionesio Malubay, 51, of Purok Panacmalan at Barangay Poblacion East in Candoni; and Elmer Cueva, 45, of Barangay Alimango, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Candoni police chief Captain Ronald Santillan said Malubay was found lying bloodied along the road of Purok Chichirica in the town’s Barangay Poblacion East at about 1 a.m. yesterday by a concerned citizen.
Santillan said Malubay succumbed to multiple stab wounds upon arrival at the town’s Rural Health Unit.
He said that they are yet to determine the motive behind the stabbing.
“We are now looking for the last persons seen with Malubay before he was stabbed to shed light into the incident,” Santillan added.
Meanwhile, in Calatrava, Cueva was with his co-worker Jerald Bulanon, 35, of Sitio San Martin at Barangay Hacienda Fe, Escalante City when he was shot at about 3 p.m. Sunday.
Calatrava police chief, Major Lidawan Lumayen said that Bulanon and Cueva were riding a motorcycle along the way at Sitio Tisoy in the town’s Barangay Calampisawan on their way home when two suspects who were also on board a motorcycle shot them and fled.
Lumayen said they are yet to determine the motive behind the killing and admitted that they don’t have the suspects’ identities yet.
He said both Cueva and Bulanon were rushed to the Calatrava Municipal Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds where the former died upon arrival.
Lumayen told SunStar Bacolod that they do not have an idea as of the moment as to the type of firearm used as there were no slugs nor spent bullets recovered from the crime scene.
Bulanon is now recuperating at the hospital, the police said.*
