Lacson said the looming crisis is something that they really need to address, adding that he ordered the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) to submit recommendations.
“We will do our best to avoid a food shortage,” Lacson assured the public.
He stressed that the impending crisis will not only affect the province or the country because it is already a worldwide problem.
The looming food crisis is being pointed out to the current war between Russia and Ukraine, both countries known to be the world’s bread basket as they are top exporters of grains.
Meanwhile, Lacson said the promise to lower the price of rice for as low as P20 per kilo is the challenge that the next administration will face.
“I’d like to see it happen but I don’t know how that will happen because if rice is at P20 per kilo at retail, what will be the price of palay?” the governor asked.
Incoming President Ferndinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. before the May 9 elections issued a statement that he will try to lower the price of rice to P20 per kilo.
But Lacson said, “I don’t know how that will be done.”
At present, the average price of rice per kilo is at P46 depending on quality.*
