Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical data and analysis of the City Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), said the Department of Health (FOH) confirmed that 21 residents in the city turned out positive for the Omicron variant of Sars-CoV-2.
This was indicated by the result of the genome sequencing conducted by the Philippine Genome Center, Sorongon said.
He said of 21 patients, two of them are elderly, while 19 others are aged 24 to 56.
They include three patients from Barangay Singcang-Airport; one case each in Barangays 12, Granada, Mandalagan, Vista Alegre, Taculing, and Handumanan; and two from Barangay Pahanocoy.
Sorongon said the patients underwent swab tests on January 7 and 12. All of them have already recovered.
The EOC-TF is still coordinating with the family of the patients to determine if it was local transmission.
In January 2022, Bacolod City recorded its first case of Omicron variant, a 38-year-old overseas Filipino.
