With this, Mayor Evelio Leonardia warned Bacolodnons anew that the pandemic is far from over yet, adding that the city, in fact, recorded two-digit of new Covid-19 cases in the last two days since Wednesday, January 5.
Leonardia, in a statement Thursday, January 6, reiterated that Bacolodnons should observe minimum health protocols to control the transmission of the deadly virus.
“We should remain compliant with the minimum health protocols (and) getting vaccinated certainly protects us but we have to be reminded to wear face masks, avoid crowded places and observe social distancing at all times,” he said.
On their daily huddle Thursday, Leonardia, along with members of the Emergency Operations Center Task Force (EOC-TF), determined that Bacolod City recorded 16 new Covid-19 cases on January 5 and another 34 new cases released on late evening of the same day that account for January 6.
On Monday, January 3, Leonardia, along with members of EOC-TF, discussed in an emergency Zoom meeting the uptick of Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Region and adjacent provinces after the holiday celebrations.
Health authorities also suspect that the increase in daily spread may already be due to the Omicron variant.
